AquaFence, the Norway-based leader in flood protection technology, is expanding its U.S. footprint with a new office at Water Street Tampa. The company has signed a 10-year lease for 3,500 square feet inside Thousand & One, the district’s landmark WELL Gold-certified office tower developed by Strategic Property Partners (SPP).

The Tampa office will be AquaFence’s third in the United States and marks a strategic expansion into Florida, where demand for resilient infrastructure solutions continues to rise. Known for its rapid-deployment flood barrier systems, AquaFence has already played a pivotal role in storm preparation at major institutions like Tampa General Hospital (TGH), where its systems protect against disruption and flooding during hurricanes.
“With a growing client base and strong relationship with local stakeholders like TGH and SPP, Tampa was a natural next step for AquaFence,” said Michael Juuhl, CEO of AquaFence. “Thousand & One offers the ideal environment for our U.S. expansion—strategically located within the medical and research district, and well-placed to support new client relations.”

The new regional hub will include a combination of new hires and staff relocating from New Jersey. Establishing operations in the heart of Water Street Tampa connects AquaFence to a growing network of healthcare, research, and innovation-focused tenants.
“We’re pleased to welcome AquaFence to the diverse and expanding community of tenants at Thousand & One,” said Josh Taube, CEO of Strategic Property Partners. “Their work has been a game-changer in protecting assets and enabling hospitals, utilities, and other key components of our communities to weather storms.”
Strategic Property Partners is continuing to expand the Water Street Tampa vision with a series of new projects now in motion. Plans include the district’s tallest residential condominium tower, a build-to-suit trophy office complex designed to attract corporate relocations, and a dynamic entertainment destination just north of Amalie Arena featuring a hotel, performance venue, and new dining and retail experiences. These additions will further extend the district’s footprint north of E. Cumberland Avenue, enhancing connectivity between Downtown and Ybor City while reinforcing Water Street Tampa as one of the country’s most forward-looking urban neighborhoods. As the district grows, protecting these future developments from severe weather becomes increasingly critical—making AquaFence’s arrival especially timely.

John Couris, President and CEO of Tampa General Hospital, also praised the move: “The AquaFence is a critical component of our comprehensive storm mitigation efforts, and has protected TGH from potentially disastrous flooding during numerous hurricanes. AquaFence's move into the Tampa Medical & Research District is a prime example of driving innovation in Tampa and recruiting companies that develop and produce groundbreaking solutions to real-world problems.”
AquaFence systems are currently deployed across sectors including healthcare, energy, transportation, and government. Its expansion into Water Street Tampa underscores the neighborhood’s growing role as a hub for sustainability and climate resilience.
Thousand & One is Tampa’s first WELL-certified office tower and anchors the 56-acre Water Street Tampa neighborhood—a mixed-use, walkable district that is reshaping the city’s urban core. Leasing is handled exclusively by Franklin Street.
