Miami-Dade County has received revised plans for Calle 8, a mixed-use skyscraper proposed at 190 Southwest 8th Street in Brickell. This project, developed by Millennium Developments of Brickell LLC and designed by BMA Architects, seeks to revitalize a 0.92-acre site along Southwest 2nd Avenue. The updated proposal, submitted on January 17th, marks a notable shift from the original plan, with the building now set to reach 65 stories or 856 feet in height.

The new design reduces the number of residential units to 458, with 225 being studios, slightly down from the initially planned 464 units. The commercial aspect of the development offers two options: a multi-level concert hall or a retail complex suitable for a department store. Additionally, the project now includes 660 parking spaces, up from the previously proposed 467.

Calle 8’s architectural design stands out with its unique triangular shape, which contrasts with the typical rectilinear structures in Brickell’s skyline. This design not only provides a distinctive visual identity but also maximizes views and natural light for the building's interiors. A significant outdoor amenities area is planned halfway up the south side of the tower, with additional indoor amenities spread across three floors.
The project aligns with Miami-Dade County's objectives for vertical mixed-use and transit-oriented developments. Calle 8’s innovative design and strategic location near transit facilities, along with its compliance with RTZ Metromover Subzone regulations, highlight its contribution to sustainable urban living and the evolution of the Brickell skyline.
