Finca La Bobadilla has reopened following a design-led renovation, a 73-room luxury estate set on roughly 865 acres in the Sierra de Loja in Andalusia. The property lies about 15 minutes from Antequera's high-speed train station, 40 minutes from Málaga and under an hour from Granada and Córdoba, surrounded by Mediterranean woodland and more than 2,000 ancient olive trees.
The estate was acquired in early 2025 by Único Hotels, the family-owned Spanish group founded by Pau Guardans and now led with his children Carlota and Alex, which took over management in February 2025 and completed the renovation while preserving the property's Andalusian character.
Interior design was led by Único's in-house team under Pilar García-Nieto, working in a palette of natural materials — wicker, raffia, rattan, noble woods and handcrafted ceramics from local artisans. Rooms and suites now have larger layouts, residential seating areas, expansive terraces and custom furniture with artisanal detailing. The "Horses" series by Xavier Guardans runs throughout, a nod to the region's equestrian heritage. Public spaces, including the Mozarabic-inspired lobby, bar, library and billiard areas, now feature warmer lighting and indoor greenery.
The three signature restaurants — El Cortijo, La Jara and El Mirador — are led by chef Óscar Velasco, with culinary direction focused on seasonal Andalusian produce. Through the summer, El Cortijo's patio hosts a series of Andalusian Summer Nights: Tuesday paella evenings, prepared live with vegetable, chicken or seafood paellas, and Friday sunset barbecues of grilled meats, fish and garden vegetables, both accompanied by live music. The estate also highlights local producers: breakfast pastries and Antequera molletes come from a 70-year-old bakery in Loja, and artisanal sweets made by the nuns of the Convent of Archidona are left in guest rooms.
Outdoors, landscape design by Rocío Sainz de Rozas replaced more than 108,000 square feet of grass with native planting. Facilities include an equestrian center with five horses and riding routes through the olive groves, a bike center with more than 20 mountain and e-bikes, courts for tennis, padel and pickleball, and more than 10,800 square feet of pool areas. The Flow Spa features sensory showers, massage cabins, a Finnish sauna, a children's spa and a heated indoor pool, with products from Natura Bissé. Family facilities include a seasonal kids' club, a children's indoor pool, an outdoor playground and a gym opening onto the olive groves.
The estate's chapel, home to one of the largest private collection organs in Europe, will host a new concert series with local conservatories. Sustainability runs throughout the property, with biomass hot-water generation, an on-site photovoltaic plant and extensive use of local materials.
