In 2023, Florida cities were prominently featured among the hottest job markets in the United States, as highlighted in a recent Wall Street Journal report. This analysis, based on Labor Department data assessed by Moody’s Analytics, saw Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, and Miami all secure positions within the top six nationwide, showing Florida's dominance in the job market rankings.
The analysis focused on five key metrics: unemployment rates, labor-force participation rates, employment level changes, the size of labor forces, and wage trends. The strong performance of Florida cities reflects the state’s appeal, particularly for remote workers drawn by its affordability and the absence of state income tax.
While Salt Lake City, Utah, claimed the top spot in the rankings, the presence of four Florida cities marks indicates a broader trend. This continuing trend shows an increase from three Florida cities in the top 10 in 2022 to four in 2023, demonstrating Florida's growing influence and appeal in the national job market landscape.
