Japanese-Peruvian fusion, Sakana Nikkei debuts in Fort Lauderdale Sakana Nikkei has officially debuted in downtown Fort Lauderdale, introducing a daring fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine in a setting that’s both elevated and intimate. The 3,020-square-foot restaurant, located at 400 SW 1st Ave, marks a standout addition to South Florida’s evolving culinary scene—anchored by a personal story of heritage, hospitality, and female leadership.

The concept was created by Kiomi Castillo and Rosemary Batzel, two dynamic hospitality professionals and daughters of immigrant restaurateurs who are reshaping the narrative of leadership in the industry. Sakana Nikkei is a reflection of their cultural roots and contemporary vision—an experience built around the artistry of Nikkei cuisine and the legacy of strong women who inspired them.

Executive Chef Brandon Bull leads the kitchen with a menu centered around high-quality seafood, flown in directly from Japan. Highlights include the towering Sakana Tower—a showpiece of sashimi, nigiri, oysters, lobster ceviche, and leche de tigre—as well as Lobster Arrizotado, a creamy Peruvian-style risotto with ají amarillo, and Short Ribs, slow-cooked and finished in a red wine reduction with regional spices.

Cocktails at Sakana Nikkei are equally ambitious. Signature drinks such as the Shiryu Margarita (tequila, chicha morada, volcanic salt air), the MSG Martini (vodka, dry vermouth, Manzanilla olives, and a savory hint of MSG), and the Sakana Negroni (Japanese gin with strawberry Campari) are crafted to mirror the bold, layered flavors of the kitchen. Non-alcoholic options like the Green Passion and Akai Dream offer playful and refreshing pairings for any palate.
Inside, the space merges sultry modern aesthetics with warmth and drama. Red florals cascade from above, lantern-like fixtures add a romantic glow, and a 360-degree bar connects indoor and outdoor dining areas. A private dining room tucked away for 12 adds exclusivity for gatherings and celebrations.
Now open for lunch and dinner, Sakana Nikkei is already carving out its place as one of Fort Lauderdale’s most exciting new restaurants. With an immersive menu, captivating design, and deeply personal origin, it’s a must-visit for those seeking something fresh, ambitious, and globally inspired in South Florida.
