Mandarin Oriental has officially debuted on one of Mallorca's most cherished stretches of coastline, opening Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra — the group's first resort in the Balearic Islands and its third hotel in Spain.

The resort sits in Calvià near Puerto Portals, where Aleppo pines frame uninterrupted Mediterranean views and the coastline drops dramatically into the sea. Spread across five low-rise buildings, it has opened with 131 keys alongside two secluded coves reachable only by guests.
The retreat was designed by HKS and Estudio Lamela, with interiors by Laura Gonzalez highlighting soft neutral tones, natural materials and hand-placed stone. Among the 131 keys are 26 suites and nine intimate casitas, with many offering private plunge pools. Curated works by local and international artists carry through the guestrooms and shared spaces, while outdoor installations turn the gardens and terraces into open-air galleries.
The dining lineup is where Punta Negra makes its loudest statement, with six concepts led by two of the most recognizable names in global gastronomy. From Nobu Matsuhisa comes Matsuhisa, serving Nikkei-style sashimi, sushi and Japanese-inspired cocktails against the sea. Dani García brings Leña, a fire-and-smoke steakhouse built around dry-aged meats and an open kitchen turning out signature yakipinchos. Jacinta layers contemporary touches over authentic Mexican tacos, tostadas, tamales and tortillas. Leppoc anchors all-day dining with Mediterranean and Levantine plates drawn from Spanish and Balearic produce, paired at its Garden Bar with cocktails and Mallorcan wines. Sobretaula sets an alfresco tapas table on a terrace, while Thalos brings Greek-inspired comfort food to an open-air poolside bar built for long afternoons sliding into evening.
The seaside spa spans nine treatment cabins, including couple's suites and a relaxation room, blending local Mallorcan practices with the brand's signature Asian-inspired rituals. Treatments include the Curandero Experience, built on regional herbs and healing, and a Tea Ceremony. Elsewhere, guests have two adult outdoor pools, a children's pool, an indoor pool and a fitness centre, alongside a full circuit of heat and water experiences — a hydro-massage pool, steam rooms, cold plunges and aromatherapy showers.
