Downtown West Palm Beach’s dining scene just gained a bold new addition: Pubbelly Sushi has officially opened its doors on Clematis Street. This popular Miami-born sushi gastropub – known for its inventive Japanese-meets-Latin flavors – brings a fresh wave of culinary excitement to Clematis, a street already famous for its nightlife and restaurants. The arrival of Pubbelly Sushi adds another gem to West Palm Beach’s diverse culinary scene, giving local foodies a taste of a South Florida sensation without having to drive to Miami.
Pubbelly Sushi first made a splash in 2010 when Chef José Mendín opened the original location in Miami Beach. His vision was simple: create a place where chefs (and, soon after, everyone else) could enjoy high-quality, affordable sushi in a cool, casual atmosphere. The concept quickly became a local favorite, even earning the 2020 Miami New Times Readers’ Choice Award for “Best Sushi.” Since then, Pubbelly has grown into a mini-empire with multiple South Florida locations.
Before landing in Palm Beach County, the brand established outposts in Miami Beach, Brickell, Dadeland, Aventura, and Pembroke Pines. The new West Palm Beach restaurant marks Pubbelly’s first expansion this far north and is actually its seventh location. With additional openings planned in Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale, the brand continues to spread its influence across Florida.
What sets Pubbelly Sushi apart is its hyper-creative fusion of Japanese and Latin cuisines. The restaurant is known for pushing boundaries and reimagining classic sushi rolls with unique twists. Signature items include the Butter Krab Roll, a decadent creation featuring crab wrapped in sesame soy paper, designed to be dunked in clarified butter and ponzu sauce. The Tuna Pizza offers a crispy base topped with fresh tuna, truffle oil, and spices, while the Short-Rib Dumplings bring an indulgent blend of Asian comfort food and Latin flair.
Tostones con Ceviche, with crispy plantains and zesty fresh ceviche, highlight Pubbelly’s playful approach to fusion. Vegetarians and vegans can also enjoy creative plant-based dishes, ensuring the menu has something for everyone. The emphasis on shareable plates makes Pubbelly perfect for groups looking to sample a variety of bold, inventive flavors.
Pubbelly Sushi has always been known for stylish, lively spaces, and the Clematis Street outpost is no different. Guests can expect a modern industrial-chic vibe, warm wood accents, colorful art, and an upbeat soundtrack. The space strikes a balance between trendy and welcoming, and a full bar with inventive cocktails adds to the energy.
