New luxury resort and residences break ground at Baha Mar

Baha Mar has officially broken ground on a transformative new beachfront resort and branded residences on Nassau’s iconic Cable Beach, launching a more than $700 million expansion that marks the next chapter for the Caribbean’s leading integrated resort destination.

Rising 330 feet across 12 beachfront acres on the former site of the Meliá Nassau Beach, the new development will introduce roughly 345 guest rooms and a collection of luxury branded residences, positioning itself between SLS Baha Mar and Rosewood Baha Mar as a distinct yet complementary addition to the resort’s “luxury of choice” portfolio. Construction is now underway with completion targeted for 2029, following formal approvals between Baha Mar and the Government of The Bahamas to move the project into its next phase.

Designed by internationally renowned firm Foster + Partners, the resort is planned as a nature-connected beachfront destination rooted in Bahamian materiality and coastal living. The property will feature a world-class spa and fitness center, multiple signature dining concepts including a rooftop Omakase experience and a beachfront specialty restaurant, expansive pools, entertainment lounges, and a full program of family and wellness amenities. Event and conference capabilities will also expand significantly, with more than 25,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space, including a grand ballroom, junior ballroom, breakout rooms, and dedicated pre-function areas designed to attract international gatherings, destination events, and celebrations.

As the fourth resort within the Baha Mar campus, guests and residence owners will have seamless access to the destination’s broader ecosystem, including more than 45 restaurants and lounges, the Caribbean’s largest casino, luxury retail, the $200 million Baha Bay water park, championship golf, and a wide range of entertainment and wellness experiences. The new hotel is expected to introduce larger guest rooms beginning around 550 square feet and will be positioned within the portfolio between SLS and Rosewood, with the brand and operating partner to be announced in the future.

Beyond hospitality, the expansion represents a major economic milestone for The Bahamas. The project is expected to generate over 1,000 construction jobs and support approximately 1,400 roles upon opening, spanning hotel operations, culinary, wellness, technology, events, and management, adding to the more than 5,000 associates already employed across the Baha Mar campus. The development is also projected to stimulate broader economic activity across local suppliers, contractors, farmers, transportation providers, and small businesses throughout the country’s tourism ecosystem.

Set for a 2029 debut, the new beachfront resort and residences further reinforce Baha Mar’s role as a long-term catalyst for luxury tourism, global events, and economic growth in The Bahamas while expanding one of the region’s most influential resort destinations.
