Ritz-Carlton Reserve is coming to a city for the first time. Marriott International is bringing its ultra-exclusive Ritz-Carlton Reserve Shanghai, a 110-key hotel that marks the brand's debut "urban Reserve" concept, a departure for a label that has, until now, defined itself entirely by remoteness.
The hotel will occupy part of a mixed-use supertall rising nearly 1,600 feet across 103 floors on Shanghai's North Bund, joining the waterfront district's growing cluster of new development. The tower will also hold office space, retail, residences, and an observation deck.

Ritz-Carlton Reserve built its identity on the opposite premise: nine existing properties, from Zadún in Los Cabos to Nayarit's Siari, sell isolation, private beaches, and a slower pace found by getting away from cities rather than building inside them. Marriott's own language frames the shift as evolution rather than compromise, describing urban Reserve properties as sanctuaries within a city rather than conventional hotels, aiming for escape through discretion and a deliberate rhythm rather than physical distance from anywhere.
Once Ritz-Carlton Reserve Shanghai opens, Shanghai becomes the only city in the world with a presence from all eight of Marriott's luxury brands. Marriott is targeting a 2030 opening.
