The Georgian Hotel joins The Unbound Collection by Hyatt

An iconic landmark along Santa Monica’s Ocean Avenue is entering a new chapter, as The Georgian Hotel has officially joined The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. The move brings the oceanfront property into Hyatt’s global portfolio of independent, design-led hotels, while preserving the identity that has defined it for decades.

Originally developed in the 1930s by architect M. Eugene Durfee, the hotel has remained a recognizable presence along the Pacific coastline, known for its turquoise façade and art deco detailing tied to Hollywood’s early years. That legacy was carefully carried forward through a full restoration completed in 2023 by owner and operator JB Hotel Group, which focused on reviving original architectural elements while reintroducing the building as a contemporary coastal hotel. The façade was restored to its original hue, historic plasterwork and moldings were preserved, and updated landscaping now frames the transition between Ocean Avenue and the shoreline beyond.

The historic hotel has 84 guest rooms, including 28 suites, many offering uninterrupted views of the Pacific. Interiors reference the building’s 1930s origins through curved forms, layered textures, and natural light, while maintaining a modern, residential feel aligned with the expectations of today’s traveler.

Dining continues to anchor the hotel’s identity, reinforcing its long-standing role as a social gathering place along Ocean Avenue. The Georgian Room serves as the signature restaurant, a restored 1933 space offering Tuscan chophouse-inspired cuisine, a deep wine program, and live jazz within an intimate, art deco setting. Sirena complements this with coastal Italian dining across its dining room, bar, and ocean-facing terrace, creating a continuous flow between the hotel and the surrounding neighborhood from morning through evening.

Beyond hospitality, the hotel has reinforced its role within Santa Monica’s creative and cultural scene. The Library features a curated collection developed in collaboration with Arcana: Books on the Arts, bringing together works that reflect Los Angeles’ literary and artistic history, while the adjacent Gallery 33 hosts a rotating program of exhibitions spanning established and emerging artists.

As of 2025, the hotel has been recognized with a Michelin Key for a second consecutive year, reflecting its design integrity, level of service, and strong sense of place along California’s coast.

Now operating within The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, The Georgian gains access to Hyatt’s global distribution and loyalty platforms while continuing to function as an individual property defined by its history, design, and connection to Santa Monica’s evolving cultural scene.
