African American Museum and Research Library

The African American Museum and Research Library is a landmark cultural institution planned for the historic Roosevelt High School campus at 1601 North Tamarind Avenue in the Coleman Park neighborhood of West Palm Beach, Florida. Designed by Bora Architecture & Interiors with design collaborator STORYN Studio for Architecture, the roughly 37,000-square-foot campus centers on a new two-story museum building organized around a 'Connected Porches' concept that honors African American front-porch and gathering culture. Stewarded by the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, the project weaves together permanent and rotating galleries, a research library, oral-history archives, and youth and community programming, with landscape and placemaking by Hood Design Studio and exhibits by Local Projects. Rising on a segregation-era school site, it is envisioned as a premier center for preserving and celebrating African American history, art, and scholarship in South Florida.
