Alam Al Roum

Alam Al Roum is Qatari Diar's coastal city on the northwest Mediterranean shore of Egypt, in Matrouh Governorate near Marsa Matrouh. The master plan by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, with landscape work by SWA, spreads across roughly 20.58 million square meters, about 5,085 acres, along 4.5 miles of previously undeveloped beachfront. At full build the plan calls for a network of sea-connected lagoons running some 13.7 miles, a further 210 acres of engineered swimmable lagoons, an international marina with berths for 370 yachts and a second marina for another 120, an 18-hole golf course covering about 242 acres, and more than 3,500 hotel rooms. The first phase covers roughly 988 acres with about 15 million square feet of built area, a two-mile promenade, a 50-berth marina and four hotels, with the plan reserving about 85 percent of the phase as open space. Marsa Matrouh International Airport sits alongside the site, and Ras El Hekma is roughly 50 minutes away.
