AZULIK AlUla is an eco-luxury resort set in the canyons of the Nabatean Horizon district within AlUla's Journey Through Time masterplan, close to the AlMutadil Equestrian Village and Wadi AlFann, the desert valley being given over to monumental land art. Developed under the Royal Commission for AlUla and operated by the Mexican brand AZULIK, it is designed by Roth Architecture, whose sinuous, hand-built idiom in Tulum is translated here to the Arabian desert: undulating exteriors of natural materials and woven fibres layered in sedimentary bands that echo the surrounding sandstone cliffs. Seventy-six villas across six distinct typologies are threaded into the topography so that each sits within the rock rather than upon it, with the resort's programme running to a spa, a VIP club, arrival lounges, all-day dining and an outpost of the brand's SFER IK museum, bringing contemporary art into a landscape already dense with antiquity. The design preserves and incorporates ancient rock-art inscriptions found on the site and works with the wadi's existing natural waterways, using them to feed irrigation and to buffer the resort against flash flooding.
