Belmont Park, the historic thoroughbred racetrack on the Queens-Nassau border in Elmont, New York, has been rebuilt by the New York Racing Association in a three-year, roughly $555 million reconstruction backed by a $455 million state loan, a 5-story building at 2150 Hempstead Turnpike that opened in September 2026.
The centerpiece is a new five-story grandstand designed by Populous, replacing the 1968 building, set beside a mile-and-a-half main track and opening the infield to spectators for the first time. In 2027, Belmont Park hosts both the return of the Belmont Stakes and the Breeders' Cup World Championships. At full buildout the venue is planned for crowds of about 50,000 on major race days.
