About the project

Coral Mountain Desert Club is a 400-acre private club community at the northeast corner of Madison Street and Avenue 58 in south La Quinta, California, set against the rock face of Coral Mountain in the Coachella Valley. Developed by Meriwether Companies, it is the first large-scale private club to debut in the valley in more than two decades. The centerpiece is an 18-hole championship golf course by David McLay Kidd, the Scottish architect's first desert-style links and his first course in the Coachella Valley, routed through natural terrain with wide playing corridors and an emphasis on strategy and accessibility over penal difficulty. Hart Howerton designed the clubhouse, which serves as the social core with private dining, men's and women's lounges, and a fitness and recovery complex holding massage treatment rooms, steam and sauna, cold plunges and hot tubs. The club also brings racquet sports, resort-style pools, and desert trails. Surf is delivered not on site but through an annex partnership with Thermal Beach Club less than ten minutes away, where a 48-chamber pneumatic wave basin, billed as the largest in the United States, is reserved for Coral Mountain members. The approved specific plan permits up to 750 residences and 60,000 square feet of commercial space, with the first tract map covering 204 single-family lots alongside future condominium parcels, golf course lots and open space.
