About the project

The Eco-Floating Hotel is a floating, rotating off-grid hospitality concept being developed off the coast of Qatar by Hayri Atak Architectural Design Studio (HAADS). The circular structure — inspired by oceanic vortexes — is engineered to rotate slowly via a dynamic positioning system using thrusters and propellers, completing a full rotation every 24 hours. Designed for zero energy loss and waste, it employs 55 Vertical Axis Wind Turbine and Umbrella (VAWTAU) modules generating up to 25 kW each, plus a vortex-shaped roof that collects rainwater for irrigation. Seawater is purified for hotel use; wastewater is treated; organic waste becomes fertilizer. 152 guest rooms with private balconies surround a central 700-square-meter lobby illuminated by natural light through the transparent roof. Amenities include indoor/outdoor pools, spa, gym, sauna, beach club, and mini-golf course. Access via 140-degree floating pier, boats, or helipad. The structure is mobile and can be relocated to coastal areas with suitable water currents. Launched in March 2020; feasibility and technical studies ongoing.
