Foro Futeca is designed to be Central America's first purpose-built, world-class indoor sports and entertainment forum, the centerpiece of the larger Distrito Futeca masterplan rising on the site of the former Estadio del Ejército in Guatemala City, between Zonas 5 and 10. Designed by HKS Architects — the firm behind SoFi Stadium and AT&T Stadium — with local studio AS Arquitectura, the roughly 2.7-million-square-foot arena will seat 21,000 for sporting events in a FIFA-compliant configuration and expand to as many as 35,000 for concerts, beneath a full roof covering both stands and pitch. The venue is engineered to shift between sport, concert, convention and cultural modes, and spans 15 levels, with 10 above-ground levels wrapping the main bowl to hold nightclubs, lounges, offices, coworking spaces, retail, galleries, exhibition halls, an amphitheater and an auditorium. Its organic envelope draws on Guatemala's volcanic landscapes, with interiors ascending from dark, grounded tones at the base to lighter, luminous palettes at the summit, evoking the climb of a volcano. Part of a roughly $350 million, 380,000-square-meter development on a 50-year lease, Foro Futeca anchors an urban masterplan that also includes the Galería Futeca shopping center and a 150-room hotel around a central public plaza. Groundbreaking for the district took place in April 2026; construction of the arena is scheduled to begin in early 2027, with completion targeted for mid-2030.
