Frontier Club is an ultra-private destination golf club taking shape across roughly 333 acres of rolling Washtenaw County farmland in Lodi Township, about ten minutes southwest of downtown Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan campus. Assembled from thirteen parcels south of Pleasant Lake Road between Alber and Zeeb roads by Ann Arbor's Wayne Jones and Scott Kovanda, the property was chosen for terrain that already moves enough to shape a golf course with minimal earthworks — a rare quality in southeast Michigan and the reason Gil Hanse, the architect behind Pinehurst No. 4 and the Rio Olympic course, took the commission. The programme pairs an 18-hole championship course with a 12-hole short course and a practice range, supported by a two-level clubhouse, eleven guest cottages and a wellness cabin that let members and their guests stay on site. Membership is national in structure and capped at 300, positioning the club alongside the small group of American retreats built for travelling golfers rather than a local daily membership.
