JW Marriott Detroit Water Square

JW Marriott Detroit Water Square is a 25-story, 601-room luxury hotel on the Detroit Riverfront, developed by Detroit-based Sterling Group on the site of the demolished Joe Louis Arena as the centerpiece of its Water Square district. Designed by Neumann/Smith Architecture with interiors by Looney & Associates, the tower places guest floors above a multi-level podium of public space, and its third-floor skybridge makes it the first hotel in Detroit connected directly to the Huntington Place convention center. Guestrooms and suites look out across the Detroit River through floor-to-ceiling glass. The hotel carries more than 53,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including a 17,000-square-foot grand ballroom, a 12,000-square-foot junior ballroom and 14 meeting and executive boardrooms, positioning downtown Detroit to compete for major conventions. Amenities include a Spa by JW, a modern fitness center and a 50-foot indoor lap pool, alongside four dining venues led by the signature Andiamo Italian Chophouse with outdoor riverfront seating. Water Square also includes a planned apartment tower of roughly 500 residences, public plazas and riverfront open space on the former arena grounds.
