The Kingsley Club, one of the most admired private clubs in the American Midwest, is building a second 18-hole championship course on a 520-acre parcel acquired southeast of its existing land, about 15 miles south of Traverse City in northern Michigan. Designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw and stretching to roughly 7,200 yards at a par of 72, it will be the first Michigan course in Crenshaw's portfolio. The routing stays faithful to Kingsley's minimalist character: walkable throughout, played across fescue surfaces framed by native grasses, and shaped with as little disturbance to the existing landform as the sandy terrain allows. A 19th "bye hole" returns players to the clubhouse after the opening six. The course anchors a $40 million, multi-phase expansion by owner Escalante Golf that also replaces the club's long-serving retrofitted construction trailer with a purpose-built clubhouse of 4,000 square feet of indoor space and 850 square feet of covered patio.
