Poppy Ridge Golf Course

Poppy Ridge Golf Course is a fully rebuilt public golf facility in the Livermore Valley wine country of Northern California, owned and operated by the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA). Originally opened in 1996 with 27 holes named for local grape varietals, the course underwent a complete transformation designed by architect Jay Blasi, reopening on May 31, 2025 after 13 months of construction. What began as a mandatory replacement of the failing 1996 irrigation system grew into a total redesign: the course was rerouted and rebuilt from the ground up as a walkable 18-hole championship course paired with a shorter nine-hole layout called The Ridge 9 and expanded practice facilities. The reimagined routing cut roughly 2,000 yards of walking distance and around 400 feet of elevation change, while new Santa Ana bermudagrass tees, fairways, and surrounds sharply reduced water use. Larger green complexes, a reduced 75,000-square-foot bunker footprint with capillary-concrete liners, wider fairways, and tees spanning about 150 yards on most holes made the course more sustainable, playable, and accessible to all abilities. In May 2026, Golf Inc. Magazine named the Championship Course a top-three finisher in its Best Renovation of 2026 awards for public courses and resorts.
