Transform RDU is a multibillion-dollar, decade-long overhaul of the Triangle's airport, headlined by a major Terminal 2 expansion that grows the concourse from thirty-six to fifty-three gates and roughly doubles passenger capacity. Renderings show a soaring, daylight-filled ticketing hall behind a full-height south glazing wall, an expanded security checkpoint, and a new linear Customs and Border Protection processing hall to handle growing international service. The program pairs the terminal work with a rebuilt John Brantley Boulevard and bridge that untangles Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 traffic, a new runway that unlocks the Terminal 2 growth, and a vastly enlarged parking economy lot with solar canopies. Designed to accommodate the region's explosive growth, the reinvented RDU aims to be a signature front door for the Research Triangle.
