About the project

Sharaan Resort is a subterranean luxury resort cut directly into the sandstone massifs of the Sharaan Nature Reserve outside AlUla, Saudi Arabia, developed by the Royal Commission for AlUla to a design by Jean Nouvel. Rather than building on the desert floor, the scheme excavates suites, courtyards and circulation into the rock itself, drawing on Nabataean carving traditions and using the thermal mass of the stone for passive performance. Guest facilities include a spa and wellness centre, a sports centre and all-day dining, with a signature restaurant set atop the mountain overlooking the reserve.
