About the project

Tepetonka Club is a private destination golf club in Lake Andrew Township outside New London, Minnesota, about 90 miles west of the Twin Cities, developed by CEO Mark Haugejorde, a former general manager of Jack Nicklaus International Golf Club who grew up hunting and fishing in Kandiyohi County and identified the former recreation site. The 18-hole, par-70, 6,765-yard course by OCM Golf (Geoff Ogilvy, Mike Cocking and Ashley Mead) runs across 228 acres of glacial moraine split by Shakopee Creek, with 100-foot elevation changes, cedar stands and the creek in play on six holes; sixteen holes required minimal or no earthmoving, and OCM moved fewer than 1,000 cubic yards of dirt on the first fourteen. A nine-hole short course, the Gjallarhorn (originally The Prox), was shaped with input from CBS's Jim Nantz; Nantz's Pebble Beach home holds the first Rock of Fame tee, and a horn sounds across the property each late afternoon. Membership is capped at 100 owners buying fractional interests in a pool of 10,000 annual member rounds, shareable among up to four people, with play limited to about 90 golfers a day. Two lodges, Wakanwi and Skol, hold 36 rooms, built by Marcus Construction, with a 16-suite Phase II above Shakopee Creek. Tepetonka Ranch, a four-season off-course lodge on a proposed 140-acre lease with a spa, heated pool, gym, sporting clays and managed pheasant hunts, serves as the temporary clubhouse; the club also plans a Supper Club and the Tepetonka Beach Club on Green Lake. KemperSports operates the club with Jason McCarty, formerly of Cabot Saint Lucia, as director of golf, with 50 to 60 in-season staff. Access is via MSP (two hours) or Willmar Municipal Airport with club shuttles.
