The Cliffs Kangaroo Island

The Cliffs Kangaroo Island is an 18-hole links-style golf course designed by Darius Oliver, co-designer of Cape Wickham Links on King Island, set across a 600-acre coastal property at Pelican Lagoon on Australia's third-largest island. Five holes run directly along 500-million-year-old clifftops rising above the Southern Ocean, with the routing pushed to the coastal crown reserve to maximize the dramatic setting; the shaping team of Lindsay Richter, Glen Peck, and finisher Cameron Semple previously worked on Cape Wickham. Developer and CEO Sam Atkins engaged Oliver in 2016, and the roughly $20 million project endured more than a decade of delays, including the 2019-20 Kangaroo Island bushfires, the Covid-19 pandemic, and water infrastructure setbacks, before opening for preview play in January 2026. A clubhouse designed by South Australian architect Walter Brooke uses local materials and houses a pro shop, bar, restaurant, and event spaces with sweeping coastal views, with a menu from executive chef Katie Allen. More than 2,500 native trees and plants have been planted, with 10,000 more planned over five years. Future stages include accommodation on the western end of the property, along with a planned hotel, spa, and private residences. The project holds major project status from the South Australian government.
