YMCA of the Palm Beaches

The new YMCA of the Palm Beaches flagship is a 55,000-square-foot, two-story community center rising at Lake Lytal Park, near Kirk Road along the Southern Boulevard corridor in central Palm Beach County, West Palm Beach, close to Palm Beach International Airport. Delivered through a public-private partnership between the YMCA of the Palm Beaches and Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation, enabled by a 50-year county ground lease, the facility roughly triples the size of the organization's existing branch and is expected to serve some 18,000 residents a year. Designed by PBK Architects and built by Hedrick Brothers Construction, the center goes well beyond a traditional gym, with advanced fitness and wellness floors, a teen Youth Engagement and Resource Center, a STEM lab with a robotics arena, a music and recording studio, a creative arts studio, a teaching kitchen, a Y PreSchool Academy, child watch, after-school care and community meeting space for partner agencies. It anchors a roughly $79 million, 13-acre campus that also includes an Olympic-style skate park by Team Pain and Palm Beach County's new Lake Lytal Aquatic Center, with a Myrtha-lined competition pool, a 13-foot dive well with springboards and an aquatic play zone with slides. A second phase will add a gymnatorium, an indoor track and a 200-seat child care center.
