The largest spa in Texas is officially open. Canyon Ranch Austin has opened in the Hill Country with a 40,000-square-foot spa at the center of 141 guest rooms, more than 600 acres of former ranchland and 1.5 miles of Lake Travis shoreline, less than an hour from downtown Austin. The all-inclusive wellness brand, founded in 1979, pairs the spa with a 27,000-square-foot fitness barn, a 12,000-square-foot medical center, two restaurants under a three-Michelin-star chef, and more than 30 daily activities and consultations. The ride in from Austin-area airports is part of the stay.
The resort sits in Spicewood, northwest of the city, where the 141 guest rooms look out over rolling hills and Lake Travis. An extensive trail network runs through the ranchland. Lake Flato, the Texas architecture firm, designed the resort along with the three residential home designs that sit within it.
The spa runs to 40,000 square feet with 40 treatment rooms, two pools, hot and cold therapy, immersive rain showers, a salon, and a retail boutique, plus separate men's, women's, and co-ed lounges. A signature weekend is already on the calendar with celebrity facialist Iván Pol, creator of The Beauty Sandwich facial. The Barn, the 27,000-square-foot fitness facility, holds a gym, studios, and an outdoor field. The Wellspring, the 12,000-square-foot medical center, is staffed by physicians and clinicians and houses the CR Vitality recovery lab. The daily schedule runs to more than 30 activities and consultations spanning physical health, mental wellness, spirituality, nutrition, and performance.
Val Cantú, the native Central Texan who holds three Michelin stars for Californios in San Francisco, the first Mexican restaurant to earn that honor, serves as Culinary Director at Canyon Ranch Austin. Executive Chef Blake Ransom oversees the daily menu. Dining is included in the all-inclusive stay and is split between two rooms: Flying X Café, the casual option, and Estella, the fine dining restaurant.
The programming reaches past the spa and the gym. The Women's Wellness Collective offers services such as DEXA scans and hormonal therapy, and its debut retreat, "Sex, Skin and Sleep," runs November 12 to 15, and later retreats with Camila Alves McConaughey and Dr. Stacy Sims follow. The all-inclusive stay also covers the transfer from Austin-area airports, handled through a partnership with Genesis.
The Ranch Home Collection puts homes on the property alongside the resort, in three Lake Flato designs running from 3,200 to 4,800 square feet on homesites of 0.8 to 3.7 acres. Prices start at $3.8 million, and each home is sold with concierge health care access. Canyon Ranch's Tucson property holds Three Michelin Keys and its Lenox property holds Two Keys. "It's a place that could only exist here and is shaped by the extraordinary landscape and spirit of the Texas Hill Country," said Mark Rivers, CEO of Canyon Ranch.
