Construction has reached the top floor of Block 55 at Sawyer's Walk, a $350 million high-rise complex in Overtown.
The development, led by Swerdlow Group and Coastal Construction Group, aims to provide 578 affordable apartments for senior citizens and create 1,100 jobs. Located near a major public transit hub and Interstate 95, the complex offers crucial transit access for seniors with lower incomes. The 18-story building will house various retail stores on the ground floor, including Target, Burlington, Ross Dress for Less, CVS, Starbucks, and Aldi. The project represents a significant investment in Overtown, an underprivileged Miami neighborhood that has historically struggled to attract development. The developers emphasize their commitment to the community and providing quality housing. Prospective residents must be 62 or older and earn no more than 60% of the area median household income. The complex is scheduled to welcome residents starting in June 2024, and its convenient location offers easy access to public transportation options.
