One of America’s most iconic ski resorts is entering an entirely new era as Deer Valley Resort launches the largest ski terrain expansion in North American history. The Utah destination’s sweeping “Expanded Excellence” initiative will more than double the resort’s size, growing Deer Valley from roughly 2,100 acres of skiable terrain to more than 4,300 acres while introducing nearly 100 new runs, multiple new lifts, and an entirely new base village on the eastern side of the mountain.

For decades, Deer Valley has built its global reputation on a ski-only experience defined by perfectly groomed slopes, meticulous guest service, and capped daily skier numbers that keep the mountain feeling uncrowded. The new expansion dramatically increases the scale of the resort while preserving those hallmarks, opening vast new terrain across previously untouched mountains east of the existing ski area.
The expansion introduces a network of new peaks, bowls, glades, and long groomed runs designed for a wide range of abilities. Several new chairlifts are being installed across the terrain, allowing skiers to spread out across the mountain rather than concentrating on the resort’s original footprint. Even with the massive growth, Deer Valley will continue operating as a ski-only mountain—one of the defining policies that has shaped its identity for more than four decades.
At the heart of the transformation is the new Deer Valley East Village, which will serve as a major new arrival gateway to the resort. Anchored by a 10-passenger gondola connecting the base area to Park Peak, the village will feature expanded skier services, parking, and access points that make reaching the mountain significantly easier for visitors arriving from surrounding highways and nearby communities.
But the vision extends far beyond the slopes. East Village is being designed as a full alpine district that will eventually introduce luxury hotels, branded residences, restaurants, retail, and year-round amenities—effectively creating a second resort core that complements Deer Valley’s existing Snow Park base area.
In the YouTube presentation announcing the expansion, resort leadership described the project as a generational moment for Deer Valley, emphasizing that the goal is not simply to grow the mountain but to elevate the entire guest experience. By opening new terrain, adding infrastructure, and building an entirely new gateway village, the resort is positioning itself for the next several decades of growth while maintaining the premium ski culture that made it famous.
When complete, the Expanded Excellence initiative will transform Deer Valley into one of the largest ski destinations in the United States and one of the most sophisticated luxury ski resorts anywhere in the world.
