Cape Town is officially landing the first EDITION hotel in Africa. The Cape Town EDITION opens November 24 on the V&A Waterfront, where one of the oldest working harbors in the Southern Hemisphere meets the Atlantic and Table Mountain rises over the roofline. The hotel will hold 142 rooms, 27 suites and six private residences, with a pool and a signature bar on the roof, with rates averaging more than $1,000 a night. At roughly $60 million, it is one of the most expensive hotels built in South Africa in decades.

The address is 7 East Pier Road, at the edge of the planned Granger Bay development, with the working harbor on one side and the superyacht marina on the other. The Amphitheatre, Battery Park, the yacht berths and a heliport sit alongside, and a new public promenade runs along the water. From the rooms and the roof, the view will take in the Atlantic Ocean, the marina, the City Bowl, Table Mountain, Lion's Head and Signal Hill, with cape Town International Airport is about 25 minutes away.

Renderings show a sculptural Drum at the entrance. Beyond it, the hotel will run long and low along the basin under a sawtooth roofline, the work of Shanghai-based Neri&Hu with StudioMAS, a Cape Town architecture and design firm. Hand-laid brickwork and artisanal masonry will line the social spaces, in materials the designers chose to echo the sea, the mountain and the harbor. EDITION is Marriott International's luxury boutique brand, created with hotelier Ian Schrager, and Cape Town will carry its signature pairing of hotel rooms and private homes under one roof.

On the roof, the pool and the signature rooftop bar will look across the marina to Table Mountain and out to the Atlantic. Downstairs, a Punch Room will anchor the hotel's restaurants and bars. A signature spa and a fitness center will cover the wellness side, and purpose-built meeting and event spaces are in the plan. The six private homes, branded The Residences at The Cape Town EDITION, will sit within the same Neri&Hu design as the hotel.

The hotel comes out of an agreement between Marriott International and V&A Waterfront Holdings announced in December 2025. Reservations opened on July 24, 2026, and the first stays are set for late November. "Cape Town is privileged to join only a select number of markets in the world with an EDITION Hotel," said David Green, CEO of V&A Waterfront.

It is Marriott's second new Cape Town hotel this year, after Morea House opened in January as Autograph Collection's first in the city.
