A Frida Kahlo–inspired speakeasy is coming to Wynwood. Diary, an intimate cocktail bar inspired by the emotional pages of Frida Kahlo’s personal diary, will debut inside the lobby of Frida Kahlo Wynwood Residences, the first-ever residential project in the world inspired by the iconic artist.

The immersive bar arrives as PMG and LNDMRK Development continue advancing the 244-residence development rising in the heart of Miami’s Wynwood Arts District. Designed by internationally renowned architect Carlos Ott in collaboration with CUBE3, the sculptural project will introduce fully finished and furnished residences ranging from studios to three-bedroom homes, some paired with rare deeded office suites designed for creative work and remote living.

Inside the building’s lobby, Diary is envisioned as a layered and immersive environment inspired by Kahlo’s introspective writing and expressive artistic language. Designed as an homage rather than a literal recreation, the space channels the raw emotion, symbolism, and storytelling that defined Kahlo’s work, creating a moody, art-forward setting where residents and visitors can gather for craft cocktails within an environment shaped by creativity and reflection.
One of the most dramatic design moments appears behind the bar itself, where a large-scale installation inspired by the tone and intensity of Frida Kahlo’s diary entries will cover the wall—capturing the unfiltered introspection that fueled many of her paintings. Suspended above the speakeasy, a sculptural metallic installation will serve as the centerpiece of the room, immediately drawing attention to Kahlo’s lasting artistic influence.

Throughout the space, bold color accents, lush greenery, and layered textures echo Kahlo’s expressive visual language. Curves, waves, and striking lines combine with vibrant tones to create an environment that feels both intimate and theatrical—transforming the lobby into a hospitality experience rooted in art.
The design also leans into Miami’s indoor–outdoor lifestyle, weaving natural light and greenery into the speakeasy’s interior while plush seating and draped décor create a warm, secluded atmosphere. The result is a social space that blends Wynwood’s creative energy with the intimacy of a hidden cocktail bar.

Beatriz Alvarado, Chief Creative Officer and Head of Global Trends at the Frida Kahlo Licensing Group, said the concept reflects the powerful emotional language that defined Kahlo’s legacy.
“Frida Kahlo understood better than most the profound impact of words and imagery, and how together they can stir emotion and challenge populations to view the world differently,” Alvarado said. “By channeling that fearlessly creative spirit into one of the first spaces guests encounter, Frida Kahlo Wynwood Residences ensures her indomitable spirit is not only honored, but felt daily.”
David Romero, founder of MIA LAB, added that the concept was designed to mirror the reflective nature of Kahlo’s writing and artwork.

“One of the most poignant aspects of Frida Kahlo’s work, both written and on canvas, was her constant reflection on the world around her and the deeply personal experiences that shaped how she interacted within it,” Romero said. “Diary offers guests a chance for a similar reprieve, where they can unwind with a drink and reflect on the human experience while surrounded by community and undeniable beauty.”
As Frida Kahlo Wynwood Residences rises in one of Miami’s most culturally vibrant districts, Diary is positioned to become one of the building’s defining social spaces—merging art, nightlife, and storytelling into a single immersive experience
