Inside Charleston’s highly anticipated waterfront hotel

The Cooper has officially opened along Charleston Harbor, introducing the city’s first luxury waterfront hotel directly connecting historic downtown with the Cooper River. The long-anticipated debut marks a major shift for Charleston’s evolving harborfront, bringing 191 guestrooms and suites, a private marina, waterfront dining, and a recovery-focused spa to a previously inaccessible stretch of the peninsula.

Developed by Beemok Hospitality Collection, the hotel positions itself as both an extension of Charleston’s historic core and a new gateway to the water. Champalimaud Design shaped the interiors with references to the city’s Lowcountry coastal homes, historic ironwork, and residential textures, incorporating soft oak finishes, basket-weave detailing, shiplap paneling, and hand-painted murals throughout the public spaces and guestrooms. Many accommodations also include Juliette balconies or patios oriented toward the harbor and skyline.

Dining is led by Executive Chef Nick Dugan, also behind Charleston’s locally acclaimed Sorelle, with four distinct concepts distributed throughout the property. Signature restaurant The Crossing blends Mediterranean coastal influences with Lowcountry ingredients inside Meyer Davis-designed interiors overlooking the harbor, while CurrentBurger reinterprets the classic soda shop with retro-inspired interiors and elevated comfort food. Cooper Coffee & Wine transitions from an all-day café into an evening wine bar beside the marina, while fourth-floor Bar Marti anchors the hotel’s pool deck with cocktails and open-air dining overlooking the water.

The waterfront experience remains central to the property identity. The Cooper introduces a private marina with a fleet of vessels available for guest excursions, including a Hinckley yacht and custom Scout boats designed for exploring Charleston’s waterways and nearby beaches. The harborfront pool deck includes cabanas, loungers, and daybeds positioned directly beside the marina.

Wellness is centered around a 7,000-square-foot spa focused on recovery and personalization. Facilities include seven treatment rooms, cryotherapy loungers, red light therapy, experiential showers, relaxation spaces, and a Sanarium sauna, alongside a 24-hour fitness center equipped with Technogym machines, Assault Air Runners, and Escape HIT training systems.

The hotel also introduces more than 20,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space, including a 4,000-square-foot Grand Lawn, a 5,655-square-foot harbor-view ballroom, a versatile Salon for groups of 10 to 100, and an intimate Boardroom with river views. Guests also receive access to Beemok Hospitality Collection’s broader Charleston portfolio, including sister property The Charleston Place and priority reservations across the company’s dining and hospitality concepts.
