Miraval opens its first international wellness resort in The Red Sea

Miraval has officially opened its first resort outside the United States on Saudi Arabia’s Shura Island, marking the wellness brand’s debut in The Red Sea.

The opening follows surging demand across the destination, where occupancy reached 82 percent during the final days of Ramadan ahead of Eid Al-Adha travel. The adults-only retreat introduces 180 guestrooms, suites, and villas positioned between lagoons, mangroves, and coral-fringed shores.

Designed by Foster + Partners with interiors by Rockwell Group, the resort draws heavily from the surrounding Red Sea environment. Curved rooflines and organic forms reference coral blooms and native flora, while the interiors layer woven textures, warm stone, and soft natural palettes throughout. Guestrooms incorporate meditation cushions, singing bowls, and expansive outdoor terraces, while larger villas add private pools and secluded beachfront settings designed for longer wellness stays and group retreats.

At the center of the property is the nearly 32,000-square-foot Life in Balance Spa, currently the largest spa facility on Shura Island, featuring 39 treatment rooms alongside hydrotherapy pools, hammams, salt rooms, sensory showers, vitality pools, and indoor-to-outdoor treatment suites. Wellness programming spans aerial yoga, breathwork, astrology workshops, meditation, challenge courses, kayaking, and nutrition-focused culinary sessions through the resort’s dedicated Life in Balance Culinary Kitchen.

Dining is anchored by Rosemary Restaurant, Palm Court Café, and Coral Cove, with menus centered around nutrient-forward cuisine, seasonal ingredients, fresh juices, smoothies, and nonalcoholic beverage programs aligned with Miraval’s wellness philosophy. The culinary offering extends beyond traditional dining through interactive workshops and private sessions with nutrition specialists and chefs.

The opening further expands Shura Island, the centerpiece of Saudi Arabia’s wider Red Sea Global destination, which is being developed as a concentrated ultra-luxury tourism hub connected to the mainland by a bridge crossing the Red Sea. The island is planned around 11 resorts, alongside a yacht marina, retail and dining districts, entertainment venues, wellness facilities, and the Foster + Partners-designed Shura Links championship golf course.

Several properties have already opened across Shura Island, including SLS The Red Sea, The Red Sea EDITION, and InterContinental The Red Sea Resort, while additional openings are expected from brands including Four Seasons, Faena, Fairmont, Grand Hyatt, Jumeirah, Raffles, and Rosewood. Beyond Shura, the broader Red Sea development already includes Six Senses Southern Dunes, Shebara, Desert Rock, Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, and The St. Regis Red Sea Resort, forming one of the largest hospitality expansions currently underway along the region’s coastline.

Miraval The Red Sea also aligns with Red Sea Global’s regenerative tourism strategy, operating entirely on renewable energy while integrating advanced water and waste management systems intended to support the destination’s long-term conservation targets. Located roughly 25 minutes from Red Sea International Airport by EV transfer, the resort becomes the latest addition to Saudi Arabia’s accelerating push into high-end wellness and experiential hospitality.
