Splendido, A Belmond Hotel, officially reopened on June 7, 2025, following an extensive transformation by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio. Set on a lush hillside above the Bay of Portofino, the 16th-century former Benedictine monastery enters a new era with restored suites, updated dining venues, and a deeper connection to Ligurian craftsmanship. The reopening also marks the debut of Villa Beatrice, a newly restored private residence located just a short walk from the main hotel.

The renovation preserved Splendido’s iconic pastel-hued façade while updating its interiors with regional materials such as Carrara marble, Lavagna stone, and Genovese-style furnishings sourced from estate sales and auction houses. The Baronessa Suite, designed as a drawing room for a well-travelled Italian aristocrat, features a private entrance garden, terrace, and restored antiques. Each guest room and suite blends contemporary finishes with traditional details including Albissola ceramics and Chiavari-style rattan weave.
New to the property, Baratta Sedici has been introduced as a vibrant gathering place, defined by a hand-painted botanical mural, warm terracotta and green tones, and bespoke furnishings sourced from artisans across Italy. Its menu features regionally influenced cocktails, including the Portofino Gin–based La Vela and the boldly spiced U Chef, alongside vintage spirits and fine wines. The bar joins La Terrazza and Splendido Grill, both led for more than two decades by Executive Chef Corrado Corti, whose menus showcase seasonal ingredients and the culinary heritage of the Ligurian coast.
Wellness offerings have also expanded with the introduction of Dior Spa Splendido, the first permanent Dior Spa in Italy. Located on the second floor, the indoor-outdoor space includes four treatment rooms, a rooftop relaxation terrace, and access to al fresco treatments in the hotel’s gardens. Other wellness facilities include a saltwater swimming pool redesigned by landscape architect Marco Bay, a fitness center with personal training, a hillside tennis court, and guided nature-based excursions.
Villa Beatrice is now available as a restored sea-facing palazzo with full access to Splendido’s amenities. Once a private family residence, the three-story home blends Gothic Revival and Art Nouveau architecture and has been meticulously restored to include original frescoes, grand arched windows, and exterior murals. Positioned above the Gulf of Tigullio, the villa offers panoramic views, direct sea access, and space for families or intimate groups seeking privacy with Belmond service. Together, the reopening of Splendido and the debut of Villa Beatrice reinforce Belmond’s long-standing presence in Portofino while introducing new dimensions of design, wellness, and hospitality to the Italian Riviera.
