St. Regis Hotels & Resorts has officially debuted in Hungary with the opening of The St. Regis Budapest, occupying the historic Klotild Palace along the Danube River in the city center. The hotel marks the brand’s first property in the country and restores one of Budapest’s most recognizable Neo-Baroque landmarks, originally commissioned by Princess Klotild of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and designed by architects Flóris Korb and Kálmán Giergl during the Austro-Hungarian Golden Age.

Positioned beside Elisabeth Bridge, the UNESCO-listed palace once served as a ceremonial gateway into Pest and remains defined by its twin-towered silhouette overlooking the riverfront. The transformation introduces 102 guestrooms and suites, including the Klotild Tower Suite and a two-bedroom Presidential Suite with panoramic views toward the Danube, Citadella, and Elizabeth Bridge.
Interiors by French design studio Moinard Bétaille reinterpret Budapest’s artistic and architectural heritage through references to the city’s opera houses, thermal baths, and Secessionist detailing. Soft blue tones, reflective finishes, sculptural ceramics, bronze accents, curved forms, and patterned flooring draw from the movement of the Danube River alongside the decorative language of Art Nouveau architecture found throughout the Hungarian capital. Guestrooms incorporate details inspired by traditional Hungarian tile stoves, while public spaces introduce dramatic staircases, crown-inspired chandeliers, and layered reflective surfaces referencing the palace’s royal origins.
Dining is led by 99 Sushi Bar & Restaurant, which pairs Japanese culinary techniques with seasonal omakase experiences curated by Culinary Director Thinus van der Westhuizen. Additional venues include The St. Regis Bar, centered around live music and the property’s signature Crown Mary cocktail created by Head Mixologist Norbert Tengely, and Klotild Patisserie, serving Hungarian and French-inspired pastries alongside artisanal coffee offerings.
The wellness program centers around The St. Regis Spa, which includes an indoor pool, traditional hammam, Finnish sauna, experience showers, treatment rooms, and relaxation spaces developed around Budapest’s bathing culture. Spa treatments incorporate products from Omorovicza and Sothys, while a glass-roofed fitness studio occupies the hotel’s upper level.
The opening further expands St. Regis’ European portfolio as luxury hospitality brands continue restoring landmark historic buildings across Central Europe.
