South Florida just unlocked one of the fastest international escapes on the map—and it takes just 25 minutes.

The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, in partnership with Tropic Ocean Airways, has officially launched “Bahamas in a Day,” a new same-day travel experience designed to make getting to The Bahamas faster and easier than ever. The program introduces daily departures from Fort Lauderdale, offering travelers a seamless, premium way to spend a full day in Bimini without the need for overnight planning.
The experience is built around simplicity and speed. Guests arrive at Tropic Ocean Airways’ private slobby just 30 minutes before departure, take off in the morning, and land directly on the water at the North Bimini Seaplane Base by 9:00 a.m. From there, travelers have eight hours to explore the island before returning to South Florida by early evening—home in time for dinner.

The goal is straightforward: remove the friction typically associated with international travel and reposition The Bahamas as a spontaneous, same-day destination.
“You don’t need a full week off or a complicated travel plan to experience the Bahamas,” said Jason Schmidt, CEO at Tropic Ocean Airways. “You can wake up in South Florida, be on a beach in Bimini 25 minutes later, explore the island, and still be home for dinner. We’re taking something people assume requires a lot of time, planning, and money — and making it easy, spontaneous, and accessible.”

"This partnership with Tropic Ocean Airways represents more than just a new flight path; it’s a total reimagining of how accessible our islands can be,” said the Honorable Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation. “By providing the opportunity to get from South Florida to The Bahamas in a mere 25 minutes, we are removing the traditional barriers to international travel. We’re providing a seamless, premium gateway that allows our guests to prioritize their time while still experiencing the full depth of Bahamian hospitality."

A typical itinerary begins with an 8:30 a.m. departure from Fort Lauderdale, landing in Bimini by 9:00 a.m., followed by a full day on the island before a 5:00 p.m. return flight and arrival back in South Florida around 5:30 p.m.
The experience includes round-trip seaplane flights, valet parking, access to a private lounge with Wi-Fi, snacks, and beverages, as well as 30 pounds of luggage. Guests are also transported between the seaplane base and Resorts World Bimini, with access to the resort’s Oasis Pool, Monkey Business Pool, and, on select dates, the Bimini Beach Club.

Beyond the base experience, optional activities expand the offering into a full-scale island day. Guests can snorkel the clear waters of Honeymoon Harbour, go bonefishing through shallow mangroves with local guides, dive with hammerhead sharks, or swim alongside wild dolphins. For a slower pace, visitors can explore Bimini by golf cart, enjoy beach club access, or simply spend the afternoon by the water.

With over 700 islands and cays located just 50 miles off the coast of Florida, The Bahamas is now positioning itself not just as a getaway, but as a same-day extension of South Florida living.
