Capella Nanjing is a discreet luxury retreat woven into the historic Meiyuan Village quarter, pairing a Capella hotel with branded residences, a private Capella Club, and a signature restaurant around a layered sequence of gardens. The David Chipperfield design carefully knits new pavilions into the heritage fabric, preserving historic structures for suites and organizing the complex around a central garden, pocket courtyards, covered balconies, and roof gardens. Chipperfield's restrained, neutral material palette and subtle contrasts let the surrounding heritage and landscape lead. A centuries-old ginkgo tree anchors the central garden as a living symbol of continuity between past and present. The result reads as a serene, low-rise sanctuary in the heart of a dense historic city.
