Hainan Science and Technology Museum

Designed by Ma Yansong's MAD Architects, the Hainan Science and Technology Museum reads as a single sculpted volume that appears to float above the wetlands on Haikou's west coast. A continuous spiraling ramp threads every gallery into one walkable route — descending from deep space and the ocean through Hainan's rainforests and tropical agriculture to a hands-on level for children — so visitors experience the building as one uninterrupted journey. Its exterior is wrapped in 843 fiber-reinforced polymer panels that form a soft metallic skin shifting in tone with the weather and daylight, giving the roughly 45,500-square-meter museum the shimmering, otherworldly presence of a low cloud settled at the edge of the Wuyuan River National Wetland Park.
