About the project

Metropolitan Park is a roughly $8.1 billion mixed-use entertainment district taking shape on about 50 acres of asphalt parking lots surrounding Citi Field in Willets Point, Queens, developed by Mets owner Steve Cohen's Queens Future with Hard Rock International. SHoP Architects leads the buildings and James Corner Field Operations the landscape, and the plan's defining move is giving roughly half the site back as public space: 25 acres of parkland with lawns, winding paths and broad outdoor steps that climb toward the resort. The program pairs a Hard Rock-branded hotel of about 1,000 rooms, heavy on suites, with a casino and sportsbook, a 5,650-seat indoor entertainment venue, a Taste of Queens food hall, restaurants, retail, and meeting and event space, all served by structured parking that replaces the surface lots. A full rebuild of the Mets–Willets Point subway station brings ADA accessibility along with new pedestrian and bicycle connections, knitting a stadium precinct that sat empty most of the year into a year-round destination beside Flushing Meadows–Corona Park.
