Miami Signature Bridge

The Miami Signature Bridge is the centerpiece of the Florida Department of Transportation's roughly $866 million I-395, SR 836 and I-95 design-build reconstruction through Downtown Miami and Overtown. Designed by Donald MacDonald Architects and delivered by the Archer Western and de Moya Group joint venture with FDOT, the City of Miami and the Greater Miami Expressway Agency, the cable-free structure carries I-395 over Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast Second Avenue on six sweeping white arches nicknamed The Fountain, the tallest rising about 330 feet above the urban core and assembled from 86 precast segments. The wider program double-decks State Road 836 over the Miami River, rebuilds the I-395 mainline on new foundations and adds capacity to the northbound approach to I-95. Beneath the elevated span, the Underdeck reclaims roughly 33 acres of long-severed land as a linear public park with green space, lighting, courts and event lawns intended to reconnect Overtown with Downtown Miami, the Arts and Entertainment District and Museum Park, making the project as much a civic landscape as a piece of highway infrastructure.
