O'Hare Global Terminal

The O'Hare Global Terminal is the centerpiece of the Chicago Department of Aviation's ORDNext program at Chicago O'Hare International Airport, replacing the aging Terminal 2 with a 2.2 million square foot hub that will more than double its footprint and rank among the largest terminal buildings in the United States. Designed by Studio ORD, a joint venture led by Studio Gang with Solomon Cordwell Buenz, Corgan, Milhouse Engineering & Construction and STLarchitects, the terminal is organized as three branching volumes that converge beneath a soaring timber-and-glass roof and a six-pointed central oculus inspired by the star of the Chicago flag, evoking the city's history as a place shaped by converging lines of movement. The hub will serve both United Airlines and American Airlines and their alliance partners, combining domestic and international operations under one roof with its own customs and immigration facilities for seamless connections, about 11 new gates, daylit concourses, generous retail, dining and lounges, and a landscaped central neighborhood at the heart of the airfield. Linked by tunnel to the new satellite concourses, the Global Terminal is designed to transform O'Hare into a modern, efficient global gateway for the Midwest.
