Penn Station Redevelopment

The Penn Station Redevelopment is a federally led overhaul of New York's Penn Station — the busiest transit hub in the Western Hemisphere — directed by the U.S. Department of Transportation with Amtrak and the Federal Railroad Administration. Master-developed by Penn Transformation Partners, a joint venture of Halmar International and Skanska, with design by Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU), the plan replaces the cramped warren beneath Madison Square Garden with a single-level concourse, ceilings rising above 50 feet, stone and bronze finishes, expanded retail and a grand new Eighth Avenue entrance. Drawing on the Beaux-Arts and Art Deco grandeur of New York's great civic landmarks, the project aims to dramatically improve capacity and the rider experience for Amtrak, NJ Transit and the LIRR.
