Built for IROOTECH, the cloud technology arm of construction equipment maker Sany Group, the headquarters pairs a 670-foot tower and a 610-foot tower on an 11,000-square-meter site in Pazhou, with 175,664 square meters of floor area, a 41-story tower that opened in December 2024.
SOM wrapped both towers in a hexagrid exoskeleton of concrete-filled steel tube columns built in five-story modules: four of every five floors hang from the frame, and friction nodes let the structure shed seismic energy. Tree-planted terraces open every fifth floor, and the office floors were planned so they could convert to residential use. An elevated podium joined to the towers by a pedestrian bridge holds three levels of dining, retail, exhibition space and gardens above a public plaza. The project targets China Green Building Label Three-Star and LEED Gold, with Beijing Institute of Architectural Design as architect of record.
