ʻUlu o Lele is an interim marketplace set to become the first commercial project to return to Lahaina's historic Front Street after the devastating August 2023 Maui wildfires. Planned for the former Outlets of Maui site, the roughly $8 million project will house 25 to 50 local vendors in modular, solar-powered retail units, with subsidized rents of about $800 to $1,500 per month intended to help displaced Lahaina businesses and entrepreneurs reestablish themselves. Conceived as a two-year interim activation rather than a permanent development, the marketplace is a community-recovery effort led by the County of Maui in partnership with the Hawaiian Council and the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation, designed to bring people, commerce, and gathering space back to Front Street while the broader rebuilding of Lahaina continues. An opening is targeted for September 2026.
