The Beckworth Hotel is an adaptive reuse of the Johnston Building at 212 South Tryon Street, a 1924 office tower that stood as Charlotte's tallest building until 1926 and gained two further levels in 1929 to reach its present 17 stories. Rather than a tear-down, the conversion preserves the landmark's historic fabric while reworking the interior into a 245-room hotel operating under Hilton's Curio Collection. San Francisco-based KHP Capital Partners is behind the project, with Gensler leading the architecture from its Charlotte office and Brooklyn studio Workstead shaping the interiors, whose renderings lean on warm timber, arched openings, draped fabric and low lamplight against the building's original proportions. The programme adds a ground-floor restaurant and coffee shop, a parlor and reception sequence off the Tryon Street entrance, roughly 35,000 square feet of ballroom and event space, and a rooftop bar with views across Romare Bearden Park. The site places guests in the centre of Uptown, within walking distance of the Mint Museum, the Bechtler, Truist Field and the Carolina Panthers stadium.
