About the project

The Bend occupies roughly 120 acres on the Tennessee River in downtown Chattanooga, on the site of a former Alstom and General Electric power-equipment manufacturing complex on the city's Westside. Urban Story Ventures is redeveloping the peninsula as a mixed-use riverfront neighborhood, keeping the site's industrial steel framing as architectural armature for new public space rather than clearing it away. The centerpiece is a 28-acre open-air district developed in joint venture with Charlotte-based Hill Partners and designed by Perkins&Will, combining chef-driven restaurants, curated retail, Class A office space and riverfront residences around a central plaza and a boardwalk running to the water. A separately developed amphitheater sits alongside it, giving the district a live-music anchor. Urban Story Ventures has drawn comparisons to The Wharf in Washington and Biltmore Village in Asheville, and the wider Bend build-out is expected to run past a billion dollars as additional parcels come online.
