Venice Place is a boutique hotel and mixed-use compound occupying a full block at the north end of Abbot Kinney Boulevard, the retail spine of Venice, Los Angeles. Rather than a single hotel block, architect David Hertz and his Studio of Environmental Architecture break the program into a cluster of one- to three-story buildings clad in brick and metal, stitched together by pedestrian bridges and an interior courtyard so the complex reads as an extension of the surrounding neighborhood fabric. The project holds 78 guest rooms, four apartments, roughly 3,000 square feet of retail and 2,000 square feet of office space, with a motor court off Westminster Avenue. Amenities lean into the beach-town setting: a rooftop garden, a spa, a pool deck, and a rental room stocked with bikes, skateboards and surfboards. The site sits blocks from Venice Beach and the canals, and the design carries Hertz's signature environmental approach through daylighting, natural ventilation and reclaimed materials.
