Aman's first Maldives resort now has a name. On September 24, Aman Group officially revealed Amanolu, along with the first specifics of the property it has been building in Vaavu Atoll since 2024.
The property will bring 52 keys to Vaavu Atoll, along with 16 Aman Residences, each set on a private island of its own. Two more islands will sit apart from both, one given over to wellness and the other to diving, snorkeling and watersports.
The name is built from two words. Aman is the Sanskrit word for peace, the root the brand has carried since its first resort, and olu is the water lily found throughout the Indian Ocean region. Together they name a secluded private atoll at the easternmost tip of Vaavu Atoll.
Kerry Hill Architects is drawing the design from what Euronews described as the "white coralline beaches, turquoise lagoons and pristine island setting of the Maldives." Aman Group is the developer. An owner partner has not been named in the coverage.
Each of the 16 residences will hold five bedrooms, a private beach, a 25-meter pool of about 82 feet, dedicated staff accommodation and a personal boat berth. Some islands will face sunrise and others sunset. A few will carry sand on both sides, and one rendering is titled "Double Beach Island Residence."
On the wellness island, the Aman Spa and the brand's signature Spa Houses will sit apart from the hotel and the homes, with nothing else built around them. Back at the resort, the plans call for multiple restaurants and bars drawing on Aman's global culinary portfolio, along with family facilities and social spaces.
Vaavu Atoll sits east of the central Maldives, and the resort's parcel is the easternmost point of it, a private atoll with nothing on record beyond the construction now underway. Work began in September 2024. No transfer time from Malé has been published.
The Maldives has been a conspicuous gap in Aman's map for a brand that built its reputation on secluded beach resorts across Asia, and the name arrives with the rest of its pipeline in motion. Amansamar in Diriyah is under construction toward 2027. Aman Karingani in Mozambique's Karingani Game Reserve and Aman Singapore are both on record for 2028, Janu Turks & Caicos is under construction on Providenciales, and Amansanu is announced for the Texas Hill Country. Kerry Hill Architects, meanwhile, is also on record designing Aman Dubai and Aman Niseko.
Two years into construction, Aman now has a name to sell against. The dining concepts are due later, the brand says, and residence sizes and prices have not been released. Amanolu is slated to welcome its first guests in 2028, roughly four years after work began on the atoll.
