The East Perth Power Station precinct is a planned waterfront redevelopment of an 8.5-hectare Swan River site on the eastern edge of the Perth CBD, bounded by East Parade, Summers Street and the Graham Farmer Freeway. The state land authority DevelopmentWA controls the site and is preparing a masterplan and design guidelines to guide its renewal, after an earlier private proposal was set aside. The heritage-listed turbine and boiler halls of the former coal-fired power station are the centrepiece of the site, which is expected to become a mixed-use precinct with residential, commercial, cultural and tourism uses around restored public open space and river foreshore. The State Government has committed about $121 million to remediate the grounds and relocate power and gas infrastructure, and DevelopmentWA will work with Traditional Owners through its Kaart Koort Waarnginy framework so that Whadjuk Noongar culture is recognised in the public realm.
