Alila Sengokuhara Hakone is the first Japanese property for Alila, Hyatt's design-led luxury brand, planned for the Sengokuhara highland plateau inside Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. Developed with Fujita and the Daiwa House Group, the low-rise retreat holds 60 rooms including 11 suites, each with its own natural onsen bath drawn from Hakone's volcanic hot-spring field, a rare specification even in a region defined by its waters. The programme adds a spa, restaurants and bars, a yoga deck and meeting and event venues, arranged so that the surrounding pampas grasslands, cedar and the ridgelines of the Hakone caldera remain the dominant view from nearly every space. Design intent leans hard on environmental harmony, siting buildings to work with the terrain rather than reshape it, in keeping with Alila's practice of rooting each property in local landscape and craft. The setting places guests within reach of Lake Ashi, the Owakudani volcanic valley and the region's dense cluster of art museums, roughly ninety minutes from central Tokyo.
